GDN Dinner in Koeln 24.06., 20 Uhr |
|
| |
Oxin Restaurant
Alteburger Straße 35
50678 Köln
www.oxin-restaurant.de
Was daran literarisch sein soll?

GDN dinner in Bangalore |
|
| |
The Women’s Night Out:
When people ask me what GDN is all about, I try and put it into words what I have understood from interacting with other members. But I never really understood the actual depth of it till my first GDN dinner in Bangalore at a restaurant called Phileas Hogg which is designed around the theme ‘Around the world in 80 days’.
To try and put into words what you can take back from a GDN dinner is no easy task. The feeling that creeps into one to be able to sit down at nice dinner table, to sip on a glass of your chosen drink, to have mouth-watering food served to you on your table and to just talk with other women, this feeling is quite indescribable.
Life isn’t a smooth walk for sure. We all have good days, bad days, slow days, busy days. Routine, traffic, work load, chaos; the sheer magnitude of what one has to deal with isn’t easy in any sense. So to be able to get away from all this, to be able to meet other women who can be very different from you, but underneath all that difference is remarkably similar to you, to share opinions, listen to new perspective on things, to make new contacts, new friends, to be able to talk about stuff you know only other women will understand, to just be able to get away for a few hours and relax and discover new aspects of yourself that might have otherwise stayed hidden even from you, this is a luxury that all women deserves and this is the luxury GDN brings to you.
I had such a great night, something I really needed ad enjoyed. The conversations were vibrant, ranging from topics of social relevance to absolute silliness that everyone needs to enjoy once a while! I made a new friend, saw things from a different perspective and felt better about getting back into my routine the next day. This is what GDN can do for you. So all you women out there don’t miss out on this. Get on board. |

And if we haven’t convinced you yet, read the following testimonial of our dinner host in Paris:
“I am a strong supporter of Global Dinner Network because of its vision for bringing international women together and providing them with the opportunity to meet and network. Being the Paris dinner organizer has been a rewarding experience. Organizing the dinners is easy and does not take much time, once I got my mailing list organized. I like to explore different areas of Paris and its restaurants to find new places for our dinners. Wherever I go, people have heard about GDN and are enthusiastic about what it represents. The best part is that it’s a great opportunity to meet people.” - Margot Borden

Dear all,
we are very sorry for the recent spam attack, it seems those people who have time to spend to send individual emails cannot imagine that the members of this network are too smart to take these efforts seriously.
If you got a spam message, please disregard it.
We are working to change our registration process and validation to avoid these events in the future.

Dear GDN-Member or friend,
Dean Ornish said: "Isolated people have vastly increased rate of premature death from all causes and are 3-5x likelier to die early than people with strong social ties."
Global-Dinner-Network is your helpful and fun tool to build social ties,
come along to the next event on Wednesday the 30th of September at:
Quartino Bottega Organica, East Village
11 Bleecker St., New York, NY 10012
212-529-5133 (http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/quartino-bottega-organ ica/menus/main.html)
GDN-dinner events are fun, as we explore new and different restaurants every time.
GDN-dinner events are inspirational as we listen to each others stories and learnings, which
provide insights for your personal and professional development.
On top of the informal dinner discussions we have this time a guided discussion about Emotional Intelligence by Gudrun Fischer (www.coaching-masterminds.com) that will help you gain more self-awareness and make you more successful in achieving your personal goals.
As an open and inclusive network, we have no cover charge, all you pay is your own dinner.
If you are interested to join, please RSVP and email to service@global-dinner-network.com.

GDN Dinner in Hamburg |
|
| |
Liebe Global Ladies!

Next GDN in Koeln |
|

talking about women and eating...lower belly bloating is of concern..see this.. |
|
| |
LONDON, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- A new survey, commissioned by Activia has revealed a bloated belly as thenumber one body complaint amongst British women[1] with 52% of women surveyedstating that they would rather live without it. Lower belly bloating or LBB(described in the survey as the physical increase in below the waistbandbelly size) has even overtaken other irksome conditions such as the muffintop and 'cankles' (thick ankles), not to mention more visual features such asa double chin, little boobs or 'thunder thighs'.
1. Lower Belly Bloat (LBB) (52%)
2. Double chin (42%)
3. Thunder thighs (41%)
4. Muffin top (31%)
5. Back fat (23%)
6. Small breasts (11%)
7. Cankles (6%)
The research, launched to highlight the misery brought by even a milddigestive disorder, showed almost 3/4 of British women (over 20 million) tobe afflicted with LBB, at some time in their lives, with 80% having toregularly perform the obligatory, yet embarrassing 'trouser tummy tuck' i.e.having to pull their waistband up and over their bellies when sitting down.Hardly surprising when you consider that LBB can result in an increase inwaist circumference of up to 12cm over the course of a day.[2]

Paris dinner feedback |
|
| |
Thank you for a wonderful and lively dinner on 7th May. I love the fact that every dinner is different, the people, the dialogue but there are also many common factors, international women coming together, getting to know one another and sharing their experiences.
Here the inspiration we shared at the dinner:
“Keep faith in the process of one’s own life.”
“Breathe deeply, set yourself free.”
“There’s hope.”
“France has taught me to build psychological armor and for that, it’s worth it.”
“Have to be open to where we’re at.”
“How is the inner life best related to outer life.”
“Despite our differences, it’s a small world.” |

Cook Yourself Thin |
|
| |
Do you want to have your cake and eat it too? "Cook Yourself Thin," an all-new series, offers viewers the skills and the confidence to give their favorite indulgent meals a healthy makeover by cutting the calories and doubling the flavor!
Based on the successful British series and popular "Cook Yourself Thin" cookbook, culinary experts Harry Eastwood, Allison Fishman and Candice Kumai show guests how to lose their unwanted inches by replacing extreme dieting with clever cooking. Each half-hour "Cook Yourself Thin" episode follows one guest as she learns simple ways to transform her favorite high-calorie meals into delicious, healthier fare.
The meals are prepared step-by-step, comparing the calorie count of the original version to that of the "Cook Yourself Thin" recipe. The guest is then sent home with the ingredients, tools and tips necessary to make healthy changes in the kitchen. After six weeks of living the "Cook Yourself Thin" lifestyle, each participant is visited at home by the hosts to check on her progress.

Geführter Hamburger Stadtrundgang: „Die Entdeckung der Currywurst“ |
|
| |
Mai. Sandra dinner@global-dinner-network.com |

Shopping Scout Tour in Berlin 4th of April: 2-6pm |
|
| |
"The city is famous for its young designer scene, for creative labels in
small courtyard studios with access to the catwalk worldwide, for showrooms in avant-garde ambience as well as for inspiration hotspot", says the mayor Klaus Wowereit in his greeting words to the Fashion Week Berlin.
Your journey will take you to hidden boutiques and independent shops ranging
from up- and-coming designers to internationally renowned names. The perfect way to
stay one step ahead of the style pack.
In this unique tour we introduce you to Berlin's cool (and much envied) range of underground stores. A carefully edited tour with the stylish visitor in mind, we combine an opportunity to discover and buy cutting edge fashion, learn about trends and
discover emerging creative talent. After the tour you will know more about
labels of Berlin, the street wear culture as well as the hot newcomers in
the scene districts. Berlin celebrates its international reputation as the
new fashion metropolis. We will show you why!
We also show you the best of furniture and home accessories to delicatessen
and a selection of trendy galleries.
"Go Local" and the real Berlin shows you as its residents know best!

|

Jamble: (verb) To explore without a set destination.
It's time to change the image of green travel. Eco-tourism isn't only for those with hemp slippers and a love of yurts - so don't expect too many stories about mudhuts or responsible travel here. (After all, what fun is traveling without a little irresponsibility?) Instead expect to find an innovative approach to eco-friendly travel -- cool gadgets, forward thinking travel ideas, green city guides and thought-provoking articles on travel and environment issues.
Jamble was launched in 2006 and has now become one of the web's leading green travel websites. http://www.jamblemag.com |

GDN book reccomendation: Female Nomad by Rita Golden Gelman |
|
| |
Tales of a Female Nomad: Living at Large in the World
Amazon.com Review:
"When Rita Golden Gelman traveled to Mexico during a two-month separation from her husband, she hoped to satisfy an old craving for adventure and, in the process, rejuvenate herself and her marriage. Little did she know it was the beginning of a new life, not just as a divorcée, but as a nomad of the world. Since 1986, Gelman has had no permanent address and no possessions except those she can carry. She travels without a plan, guided by instinct, serendipitous opportunities, and a remarkable ability to connect with people. At first her family and friends accused her of running away, but Gelman knew she had embarked on a journey of self-discovery and a way of life that is inspiring and enviable. We know Gelman is not your typical middle-aged housewife from LA when, on that first trip to Mexico, she randomly picks a Zapotec village and decides to live there for a month, knowing nothing about the culture or the language. When she arrives, the villagers run away from her, terrified. By the time she leaves, there are hugs and tears. From there she travels to Guatemala and Nicaragua, Israel and the Galapagos Islands. But the heart of the book--and her 15-year journey--is Indonesia, where she lives for eight years. It is Bali that forever changes how she looks at the world, facilitated by her friendship with an aging prince. Tu Aji not only invites her to live with his family but decides that the education of Rita will be his final duty in life. Wherever she goes, Gelman has an uncanny ability to slip into other ways of life and become part of a community. And she is a person for whom doors open widely--her seatmate on the plane to Bali scrawls the prince's name on a piece of paper, she talks her way into a sojourn at Camp Leakey in Borneo where orangutans are studied, and an entire village in a remote part of Irian Jaya prays for the clouds to clear so her plane can land--and they do! Gelmen's secret is her passion for people. That being the case, the book is short on descriptions of place, but long on the rarer inside view of the peoples and customs of those places. This in itself is treat enough, but Gelman's animated and intimate story comes with a kicker--it's never too late to fulfill those dreams." --Lesley Reed --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

GDN book reccomendation: Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert |
|
| |
Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia
From Publishers Weekly:
"Gilbert (The Last American Man) grafts the structure of romantic fiction upon the inquiries of reporting in this sprawling yet methodical travelogue of soul-searching and self-discovery. Plagued with despair after a nasty divorce, the author, in her early 30s, divides a year equally among three dissimilar countries, exploring her competing urges for earthly delights and divine transcendence. First, pleasure: savoring Italy's buffet of delights - the world's best pizza, free-flowing wine and dashing conversation partners - Gilbert consumes la dolce vita as spiritual succor. "I came to Italy pinched and thin," she writes, but soon fills out in waist and soul. Then, prayer and ascetic rigor: seeking communion with the divine at a sacred ashram in India, Gilbert emulates the ways of yogis in grueling hours of meditation, struggling to still her churning mind. Finally, a balancing act in Bali, where Gilbert tries for equipoise "betwixt and between" realms, studies with a merry medicine man and plunges into a charged love affair. Sustaining a chatty, conspiratorial tone, Gilbert fully engages readers in the year's cultural and emotional tapestry - conveying rapture with infectious brio, recalling anguish with touching candor - as she details her exotic tableau with history, anecdote and impression."

GDN Dinner in Koeln |
|
| |
Argentinisches Restaurant
Zwischen Heumarkt und Gürzenich
Bolzengasse 9 . 50667 Köln
http://www.elchango.com/
Ta tzeit: 4.12., 19 Uhr
Tatverdächtige: Andrea, Jeannette, Catalina, Alex K., Doro, Suzan
Wein, Weib, Gesang!
Auf ein Neues!
Lieben Gruß
Suzan |

Women's Travel Facts |
|
| |
Women—young, old, single, married, and widowed are fueling an explosive growth in the travel industry. More women are traveling, for business and for pleasure.
72 million US women traveled during the past year.
Of those who currently take nature, adventure or cultural trips, 75% are women.
The average adventure traveler is not a 28-year old male, but a 47-year-old female. And she wears a size 12 dress.
Last year women spent $55-billion in Outdoor Equipment, from hiking boots to specialized bike seats designed for the female anatomy.
The number of women-only tour operators has increased 230% in the past six years.
70% of all travel decisions are made by women, regardless of who they travel with, who pays for the trip, or where they go.
A woman is the decision maker.
70% of all travel decisions are made by women.
Excerpted from the introduction to Marybeth Bond's books and from articles she's written on the subject of women travelers.

GDN Dinner in NYC - see what's cooking... |
|
| |
Dear GDN-Ladies,
I would like to thank Jeanne Brutman so much for her interesting and memorable way to educate us on how to become financially more independent. Thanks again, it was really a great way of presenting this "boring" matter in a lively way!
I would like to share Hannah's hypothesis...as discussed at the end of the evening: There are just two groups of people: old ones & young ones... and your physical age does not matter ..you are born either old or young.. and you are like this all your life!
....and we found out that the young ones prefer to put themselves in uncomfortable situations, thus learning continuously and in the moment the learning curve flattens .. they are eager to seek out the next challenge... we suspect that GDN women are like this......the never stop learning bunch of women..
Next events we will plan to do...a) see a Bollywood movie that Amita will select and b) Shannon will organize a detox day in Brooklyn... stay posted..here if you are interested.
And we found out that 3 of the participants could have met each other before since they are neighbors and go shopping in the same food market in Brooklyn! Their recommendation is: www.barbesbrooklyn.com to be check out for live music.
GDN...never stop learning :>) |

You want to advertise our local business to the global woman traveller? |
|
| |
Would you like to promote YOUR local business to the global GDN community?
Introducing the launch of a new feature on Global-Dinner-Network, allowing local business women to promote their businesses to the global traveler! You won’t want to miss this unique opportunity to reach potential clientele across the globe, and grow your business through a wider network!
Do you own a hotel or restaurant? A jewelry store or shoe shop? Be sure GDN members know where to stay, dine, shop and more when they come to your town! By placing a banner advertisement on the search results of a GDN country or city, you’re ensuring that members visiting your locale will know all about you. Even better, you are supporting - and being supported by - fellow women entrepreneurs.
Here’s an example of how it works: If you live in Hamburg, place a banner advertisement that will be seen by women traveling to Hamburg. If you live in New York and will be traveling to Hamburg, take advantage of banner ads helping you to discover Hamburg’s tourist tips, specialties, hot spots and more – all from Hamburg’s local women entrepreneurs. You get the idea!
Launching this new service, we have a special offer: You can advertise your business with your banner for your GDN City for only 1 Euro per month. If you are interested, please email to service@global-dinner-network.com for more details.
Be inspired. Be yourself.

Why do I think Global-Dinner-Network is interesting and unique and never boring?
...because learning from other means you ultimately
learn about yourself.. How can this be boring?
The interest in other lives will make you
reflect on your own
and it is said: Knowing others is intelligence; knowing
yourself is true wisdom..
that"s why every dinner meeting is uniquely worth it! |

Beloved daughters - March 27 |
|
| |
I would like to recommend you this exhibition... it is exceptional in bringing you in touch with women elsewhere...the photos are for me an expression of life
how I have hardly ever seen it...it is such a wonderful work..
Beloved Daughters: Photographs by Fazal Sheikh
Thursday, March 27, 2008, 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM
SU Art Galleries, Shaffer Art Building, Syracuse University, Syracuse
SUArt Galleries presents Beloved Daughters, an exhibition that unites the Moksha (Heaven) and Ladli (Beloved Daughter) series, two of photographer-activist Fazal Sheikh"s most recent projects concerning the lives of women in India.
The first of the two series, Moksha, completed in 2005, focuses on dispossessed widows who find refuge in the holy city of Vrindavan in northern India. They worship the god Krishna in hopes of being released from the cycle of reincarnation from past actions, samsara, into a higher state, moksha. The second, Ladli, reveals horrific stories of infanticide, feticide and other forms of abuse directed towards the women all over India.
Fazal Sheikh creates sustained portraits of communities around the world through photography, addressing people"s beliefs and traditions as well as their socio-economic problems. Both Moksha and Ladli are hardcover books and are available at the gallery store.

GDN Dinner in Marburg |
|
| |
I really enjoyed the meeting. Specially because the atmosphere was very nice and the ladies were definitely likeable. Besides, the location was a very good choice!
Concerning the participants, there was a great diversity in profession as well as in age. So that I met really different women, ranging from a few self-employed women to some with an interesting job at an international company.
Specially inspiring to me was the fact, that most of the ladies have children and are successfull in their job. Best regards. |

Wochenende |
|
| |
Hallo liebe Gleichgesinnte,

Review: Paris, Munich, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Marburg...on September 13th and 14th women met for GDN-dinners. Gain insight in the experiences of inspiring evenings: |
|
| |
The restaurant was very adapted to the purpose of the meeting. Everybody felt comfortable. People were from various origins, various age and various experience. They had in common to be very open minded and friendly. This was my first GDN diner. I liked the GDN meeting so much that I will certainly iterate the experience. Michaela, Paris
Wonderful and empowering if at first daunting experience. A true smorgasbord of nine charakters and experiences, not often found on just one table! Look forward to the next dinner!
Charlotte, Paris
Judith, Marburg
I had an excellent evening. Paris can be a lonely city, so meeting people from diverse backgrounds over good food and wine, exchanging strories about everything is simply a pleasure!
Sher Ren, Paris

Neue Studie: Familienleben - Litauen und Deutschland als Schlusslichter |
|
| |

Mongolische (Live-) Küche in Osnabrück |
|
| |

Where to park the family near Johannesburg |
|
| |
I am going to Johannesburg for business in late octobre/early november, and since it is school holidyas that week, I'll bring my hsuband and 8 yr daughter and take a few days off myself.
Has anyone any good (and rather inexpencive) suggestions of where to park them, when I work. I heard that Pilanesberg/SunCity could be a good place. Are there good guesthouses/B&B:s there?
Any other suggestions of where to go?
All tips welcome!

Someone in Sydney or Melbourne? |
|
| |
Hi, I'm a 24 year old German student working in Australia for 6 months. I'm currently in Sydney and will stay there for the next 2 weeks (until 9 July). I'd love to meet some nice, outgoing people to have some fun and to see a bit of this awesome city.
In 2 weeks I'm returning to Melbourne where I live. I'd also like to meet some people there because it's always great to meet different people and to get to know to people from all over the world. In the last 3 months I have only met friendly people and started promising friendships. So if you want to catch up in Sydney or Melbourne just comment on this blog. Thanks and hope to see ya! |

masther thesis about nomadic living |
|
| |
Dear global dinner network Ladies,
my name is Lena Hirche. I?m preparing my master thesis in product design at the moment. My topic is ?nomadic living and identity? that for I prepared a small survey I would ask you to answer. I'm searching for business woman, which are used to travel a lot for there work.
You would do me a great favor if you write the number of the question before each answer and send the answers to my email address:
lena@kisd.de
1) Where or what is home for you?
2) How many days a week are you travelling for your
work?
3) Which are the most important things you are taking
with you?
4) Are there any things you take with you on your travel
which fulfil just an emotional need for you?
5) While constantly travelling, how do you express your
identity? (for example: ring, watch...?)
6) How do you use your time, while travelling?
7) Where or how do you relax during the travel?
8) Is there something you have in mind, that would
make travelling easier or more comfortable for you?
